学術的な内容の話を聞いてノートを取ることは容易なことではありません。そんなノート作り (note-taking) について、YouTubeチャンネルのCajun Koi Academyは、有効な指針を示してくれています。以下、そのチャンネルの中から4つのビデオを紹介します。

要旨：聞いているトピックおよび書いているノートについてのメタ認知を働かせる。聞こえてくる情報について判断・取捨選択し、重要な情報だけをそれに適した方法で記録する。

ちなみに7つの方法は以下の通り。

(1) 直感的な理解が可能な図表でできるだけ表現する。

(2) 自ら考えながら要点だけを書く。決して考えなしにすべてを書き取ろうとしない。

(3) ノートを閉じて理解・記憶しているかを試す。

(4) ノートは何度か編集して精選する。

(5) 時系列順の記述と図表での表現の長所・短所を理解する。

(6) 概念性の高いトピックの場合は、細かな情報を捨てて概念理解に専念する。

(7) 聞いているトピックについて自ら問いを投げかけながらノートを作成する。

要旨：文系科目 (non-technical subject) はQEC (Question, Evidence, Conclusion）の枠組みで理解し、と理系科目 (technical) はPSA (Problem, Steps, Answer) の枠組みでノートを作る。文系講師はQECを明確に述べないことも多いので、自分で何がQuestionでConclusionかを明確に理解し、その流れで述べられたEvidenceを記録する。理系科目の場合は、Stepsを記録する際に必ず自ら考えた上での注釈を付ける。注釈がないと丸暗記になり、応用も利かないし忘れたりする。

要旨：Lower Order LearningとHigher Order Learningの違いを自覚し、必ず後者の学習を行う。LOL（低次の学習）とは、remember and understandである。HOL（高次の学習）とは、Apply, Analyze, Evaluate, and Createである。高次の学習を行うためには、低次の学習をする際に次の問いを自問自答する。

(1) Why does this information matter? (Evaluate)

(2) How does this relate to other information? (Analyze) 

(3) What can I do with this information? (Apply or Create)

要旨：情報を3つの層に分類する。3つの層とは、Layer 1 (Concepts), Layer 2 (Essential Details), Layer 3 (Peripheral Details) である。Layer 2　と Layer 3 の違いは、前者がないとLayer 1が理解できないが、後者についてはそうでないということである。試験で問われる80%はLayer 1とLayer 2についてであると思ってよい。理解を深めるためには次のステップに従う。

(1) キーワードをすべて書き出す。

(2) キーワードが3つの層のどれに属するかを分類する。

(3) まずLayer 1のキーワードだけの関係図を作る。次にその関係図にLayer 2のキーワードを付ける。つまり、最初はLayer 3のキーワードについては扱わない。

■　社会的に洗練された英語表現の重要性

自己中心的で他人への配慮ができない人が嫌われるのは、古今東西どの社会でも同じです。外国語としての英語を話す私たちも、他人への配慮を英語表現で具体的に示す必要があります。

日本の英語教育ではしばしば文法や発音に対しては過剰なまでの関心が払われます。しかし社会的に適切な表現を使うことは、時に文法や発音よりも重要です。極端な例を出しますなら、文法と発音においてほとんど母語話者と見分けがつかない人が、自分勝手で幼稚な表現を使い続けたとしましょう。その言語使用が引き起こす問題は、文法や発音の不完全性がもたらす問題よりもはるかに深刻です。

Part 1が難しかった人は、Part 2から始まる基本編からビデオを見ることをお勧めします。ただ、すべて見ようとすると気も重くなるでしょうから、ビデオの選択は適宜行ってください。自らの教材と学習ペースは自分で決めてください。
